OG midlaner and two-time The International (TI) champion Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen announced on Friday (19 November) that he will take a break from the competition and skip the 2021-2022 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season to spend time with his family.
After OG's humiliation at TI10 in October, when they were knocked out of the tournament by Team Spirit, Topson sat down with the team and explained that "his competitive spirit had diminished".
"[Topson] needed a break from the season to spend time with his wife and child, and to enjoy playing Dota for the fun [...] That his love of the game was the reason for the way he played and was able to produce the best. he is no longer with his loved ones to find peace and to light a fire, "OG said.
Although Topson will not be competing professionally for the foreseeable future, he will still be present at Dota 2 by returning to broadcasting during the break.
“I want to thank all the fans, everyone who has been supportive over the years, even now when it was so hard… it was so good to have that fan base, and I will just take a cool pill for a year or so, and move on. you guys. Have cool vibes, ”said Topson.
“Topias, you are one of a kind friend of mine. The best and highest quality player I have ever worked with. Thank you for appearing every day with a smile and a good attitude. Relax my friend, spend time with your beloved family, stream and enjoy playing Dota for fun, and take care of yourself! We are really looking forward to our next midnight tennis match! ” added OG CEO JMR Luna.
Topson entered the Dota 2 competition in 2018, when he emerged from being an anonymous pubstar and became a TI champion in almost one night by helping OG in their amazing run to the Aegis of Champion in TI8.
Although many dismissed their running in the TI8 tournament as a fluke, Topson and OG expressed doubts that they were wrong the following year. They won TI9 and defeated Team Liquid, 3-1, in the grand finale to become the first team to compete in the Aegis of Champions twice and in successive years.
With Topson taking a break from the competition, only Johan "N0tail" Sundstein remains on the OG list and is the only player still on the list to win the Aegis of Champions in TI8 and TI9.
OG offlaner Sébastien “Ceb” Debs made a dramatic announcement on Thursday (November 18) that he is about to retire from Dota 2 professionally after more than a decade of competition. Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan and Martin “Saksa” Sazdov also parted ways with the party earlier this month.
The DPC season of 2021-2022 will start at the end of November and is divided into three Tours in the fall, winter, and spring, with regional leagues taking place from 29 November 2021 to 17 July 2022.
